The Spring Before I Met You (The Lynburn Legacy 0.25)

By: Sarah Rees Brennan

Release Date: September 11, 2012

Rating: 4 stars

Summary: This story introduces us to one of the main characters of Unspoken, Jared Lynburn. Seeing him as the broken, dangerous, closed-off teenager that he appears to be from the outside allows us to anticipate all of the insight we’ll have into his character when we get inside his head–which we will, since he’s the heroine’s “imaginary friend.”

Review: Again, please note that I have already read “Unspoken” six months ago as an ARC, so that may have affected my review.

I liked this novella a lot more than “The Summer Before I Met You” because I felt this one was a better lead-in to “Unspoken.”

In this book, you learn about Jared’s rough days in school, his crazy mother and begin to meet the other Lynburns. You also get a glimpse of how much Kami’s “presence” affects Jared, whereas “Summer” barely mentioned it at all.

For someone who has already read “Unspoken,” it was nice to get more details about the past that Book 1 had alluded to. I would imagine for someone who has not read “Unspoken,” this could easily get that person excited for the release of the book.
