It’s September 26 in Australia and that means Quintana of Charyn, the third book in the Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, is out!! While we’re all pouring through the book anxiously pondering Froi’s fate, feel free to share your opinions of what’s happening so far, or what has happened in the previous two books, in the comments. (WARNING: SPOILERS).
P.S. I haven’t forgotten about the September 25 releases, they’re forthcoming, I promise.

it’s been hard wait!
I just finished Froi and man! Am I happy I started this series so I can continue right away with Quintana! The way things are now, big chance that this series end up in my absolute favorite pile.
Finnikin started rather slow for me, had a bit of difficulties to get into the story. But once hooked, there wasn’t a dull moment for me. I didn’t really care for Froi until the almost rape… After that he ruined it for me. So when I discovered that book 2 was actually about him, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to like him. But damn! How can one not?! I’m still wondering what would’ve happened if no one had pulled him away from Isaboe and although he often doubts himself I don’t believe for one second that the man he is now would ever do such thing. Ok done fangirling 🙂 (wasn’t that bad, right?)
Then, what an ending!! It has me confused in so many ways! Who saved Froi? Sowing doubt about Gar. And Phaedra… First I was annoyed when Froi’s story got interrupted. After a while I caught myself that I actually looked forward to read more about Lucian and Phaedra. So I was so mad when she died! But then she didn’t… What’s up with that?! Why are they in hiding? I don’t get it

oh let me tell you my theory… i think Phaedra somehow found quintana and they pretended to dye so they could protect her and the baby. nav thinks i am wrong…

well to be honest that theory doesn’t sound that bad. What do you think then Navs?? Cause I can’t come up with another reason why P would leave Lucian and hide with some others pretending to have plague…
I don’t think you’re entirely wrong but I feel like those two events don’t match. How could Quintana reach Lumatere and Froi asked her to go to her mother’s village.
ok confession: I suck at geography… Where Q was with Froi, was that far from Lumatere?
My theory was that Phaedra wanted to know what was going on in Charyn since nobody was telling them anything. So they wanted to find out and maybe plan on saving Q too. I don’t know. I’m confused now and the theory doesn’t sound that good.
About Q’s location, I can’t be sure. *sigh* I really need to start the book instead of mentally banging my head against the wall thinking about it.

They were attacked at the mountain to get to the village remember? which means they knew she was going there. so it wasnt save for her and Q is not dumb. i wouldnt have thought it, if P wouldnt have faked her death. but she did. so thats what my brain came up with.

Hmmm.. I can’t recall a lot of things. So Froi and Q were headed to what village? Q’s mother’s or Lumatere?
Lol! Well apart from attacking your theory, I have mine because I think that Phaedra and other ladies staged their deaths earlier than Q and Froi decided to leave. So they wouldn’t have known that Q needed saving at that time.
Finnikin was slow for me too. I slept around two times while reading the first 100 pages. It might also have something to do with how late I started it both the times. We don’t realize that Froi is the kid who tried to rape Isaboe till later I think. So for a long time I had no idea who the sequel was going to be about. And I was skeptical too but Froi is fantastically amazing. :3
Same! When the chapters switched between Lumatere and Charyn, I didn’t want either story to take a pause! Marchetta writes in such a fashion that you can’t help all the feels you get reading her work.

Well, I started Finnikin around 12 or something at night both times. And the starting is slow. And I might’ve been tired. It’s funny cause I usually stay up till morning sometimes to finish a book I like. Damn the consequences. And this series is my favorite.
No, didn’t miss it. But we didn’t know that he was called Froi then. That’s what I’m trying to say.

I hadn’t read Froi’s synopsis. I just knew that there was going to be a sequel called “Froi of the exiles”. And when that scene happens, we didn’t know that the boy thief was called Froi, so I had no idea who the next book was going to be about until later.

after they rescued him from the slave traders, he said his name was froi… and thats when he starts talking and stuff…. and at the end of finnikin its really clear that he is froi and they call him froi of the exiles

Really? I guess I was. I’ve read so many books since I read Finnikin and Froi that the details are all smudgy. But wait a second.. the slave traders scene happens after he tries to rape her. Isobel sold him off later.

and btw, I know some people around here don’t mind a bad ending but considering what I’ve been through already with these books, IT MIGHT BETTER END GOOD!! 😡
lol! i actually sort of agree… but i do think that there will be some things that go a miss. i am worried about froi and finniking. hope they end up still being friends actually.
i think froi & quin and fin & isaboe are going to be fine- not so sure about phaedra and luc. but i really really want them to end up together.

I have the same sinking feeling that someone will die. And since Finnikin and others are out for Gar’s blood, it’s more likely that Ar will die.

I have read a few chapters by now and only one little part was written as Q’s pov. It is not easy to get into her head… But I’m wondering if we will get more pov’s from her cause the book title is Quintana… And book 1 and 2 the author also wrote mainly from Finnikin’s and Froi’s pov
It would be interesting to read something from her pov. She really is a strange girl. I have finally started!

Isaboe is pissing me of! I KNOW she suffered big time and what happened to her and her people is horrible beyond words. But the strength I liked in her in book 1 isn’t so attractive anymore now… She’s blinded IMO by her past. She wants to take revenge but with that hurting Charynites who have nothing to do with everything that happened. Hurting Charynites who suffered so hard herself.

Yeah, Isobel’s decisions are rather harsh but now that she knows more from Froi’s letter I’m hoping she won’t be too quick to judge.
You’ll REALLY like her once you see what she does first for Quintana and then at the end 😉

Is it only me who has cried? I initially wanted to cry happy tears and then it turned into an emotional choke-hold while reading about Froi and that scene. And then …Isobel.. and…th…*huddles in a corner and sobs*

I don’t think words will be enough to ever describe my love for Froi,Gar,Ari,Finn,Q,Isobel,Trevanion,Beatriss,Tesadora,Perri,Phaedra,Luc-ien,Vestie,Jessamine,Tariq,Mort,Grij,De Lancey,Rafuel…er..it’s a long list but you know, the entire population of this series. Even Finn’s hound, Gert and Bert and the river and the valley and the godhouse and eveRY.SINGLE.THING!
I don’t want to read any other book for a long time now.
Marchetta has set really high standards for fantasy.
