Emma Roberts to star in TV version of Delirium

Actress Emma Roberts is set to make her return to television in the Fox pilot of Delirium, based on the bestselling YA novel by Lauren Oliver, according to several media reports.

Roberts, who previously starred in the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous in 2004-2007, will play the lead role of Lena, a 17-year-old girl who lives in a society where love is illegal and the government removes an individual’s ability to love through a medical procedure. Of course, Lena then falls in love with someone who hasn’t yet had the cure.

This might just be the big break this actress needs to establish herself and come out of her famous aunt’s shadow since her biggest movie titles seem to include minor parts in Valentine’s Day and Scream 4.

I’ve also heard rumors that the pilot episode will cover all of book one of the series, and will stray from the original plot. Although I’m not very familiar with Roberts’ acting skills, I’m interested to see if she can pull this off and not end up like other teen dramas that start off with little known actresses, which are hard to watch.

The pilot is set to be released in the Fall of 2013.
